I offer 20 minute and one hour session options and one of the most common questions I get from prospective clients is… Which option should I book???

Here are a few things to consider…

How many people are included?

If you’re planning an extended family session with multiple family units or including more people than your spouse and kids, then 20 minutes is probably not going to allow enough time to capture a sufficient amount of photos for the number of people involved. You have everyone dressed up and coordinated, take advantage of that and be sure you allow enough time to capture all the images you’re looking for! If it’s just you, you and your spouse, or you and your spouse and kids, 20 minutes might be perfect to capture a few group photos and individuals of the kiddos.

Will there be children?

If kids will be a part of the session, take into account their attention spans. Most kids under the age of 5 don’t have super long attention spans and will probably not last for the whole hour. I get it! In that case, 20 minutes would probably be perfect. That being said, I have had quite a few hour sessions with younger kids that have gone so smoothly! They especially last longer when there’s an activity or space to play during the session (beach, park, etc).

What’s the purpose?

If the purpose of the session is to thoroughly capture the moments of this season in your home with a newborn, many different groupings or moments with many family members, or include multiple locations and outfits, then you’re going to want to be sure to give us plenty of time to capture those and an hour would best fit this vision. If you’re looking to take a few photos for Christmas cards or to update a couple of photos around the house, then 20 minutes will be perfectly short and sweet!

I love working with my clients to find the best option to fit their vision. My goal is to create a session and atmosphere that are exactly what you are hoping for filled with images capturing precious moments.

Hopefully these tips will help you think through options that will best fit your needs and give you an idea of some of the questions I might ask when helping you to determine what session length works best for you.
